John Kerry’s “Joke”

Soldiers hold up sign

From Iraq to a Milwaukee radio talk show host to the Drudge Report to the mainstream media, a photograph of U.S. soldiers responding to a “botched joke” by John Kerry rocketed around the cyber-world.

“Maybe this Internet thing will actually catch on,” joked WTMJ-AM (620) host Charlie Sykes, who first posted the photo Wednesday on his Weblog at www.620wtmj.com. “Who knew?”

The photograph shows members of the U.S. military holding a banner reading, “HALP US JON CARRY – WE R STUK HEAR N IRAK.”

North Korean propaganda is ripe with the amazing achievements of its Dear Leader. The highly controlled state also closely monitors its citizens to make sure they do not speak out against Kim or challenge his rule.

Kim pilots jet fighters, pens operas, produces movies and accomplished a feat unmatched in the annals of professional golf by shooting 11 holes-in-one on the first round he ever played.

Tennis cowers before Federer

WIMBLEDON, England – Finally, there is someone who can beat Roger Federer.

Finally, there is someone with enough game, with enough guts, to end this domination. Finally, there is someone with enough confidence, with enough charisma, to keep Federer away from the history books.

His name is Borg.

Just as soon as 1980 rolls around again, all of this Federer foolishness is over.

It was hours after Federer had rolled into his third straight Wimbledon final, stepping over a perfectly harmless Lleyton Hewitt along the way, when the monitors at the tennis club began to show old matches. Voila, there was a young Borg beating a young McEnroe, giving birth to a perfectly logical question: Gee. What would happen if Federer could play the winner?

If not Borg, how about Sampras? How about Laver? How about Becker? How about Connors?

With those guys, you can at least get an interesting discussion as to who might win, which is more than we have had at Wimbledon for the last three years. Federer has drained men’s tennis of all intrigue. He has become a foregone conclusion on grass, and at times, he resembles a sheepherder taking his flock to market more than a competitor facing down legitimate challengers.

Every time Federer tosses a ball into the air, it seems, the history book opens a little wider and his opponents bow a little lower. The rest of the tour lies curled around his feet, hoping for scraps and bad bounces.

Texas Chili Contest

Found on Digital Grin

Warning – If you can read this whole story without laughing out loud, then there’s no hope for you. I was crying by the end.

Note: Please take time to read this slowly. If you pay attention to the first two judges, the reaction of the third judge is even better.

For those of you who have lived in Texas, you know how true this is. They actually have a chili cook-off about the time Halloween comes around. It takes up a major portion of a parking lot at the San Antonio city park.

The notes are from an inexperienced chili taster named Frank, who was visiting from Springfield, IL.

Frank: “Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a chili cooking contest. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge’s table asking for directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was assured by the other two judges (native Texans) that the chili wouldn’t be all that spicy and, besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted.”

Here are the scorecards from the event: (Frank is Judge #3)

Chili # 1 Eddie’s Maniac Monster Chili…

Judge # 1 — A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick.

Judge # 2 — Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.

Judge # 3 — (Frank) What the hell is this stuff?! You could remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put out the flames. I hope that’s the worst one. These Texans are crazy!

Best Buy Has Man Arrested for Using $2 Bills

“Mike Bolesta of Baltimore thought he would protest Best Buy’s not-so-great customer service and pay his bill with 57 $2 bills. For his trouble he got to spend some time in the county lock-up.” From the article: “..Bolesta was contacted by the store, and was threated with police action if he did not pay the [installation] fee he was told before did not exist. As a sign of protest, Bolesta decided to pay using only $2 bills, which he has an abundance of because he asks his bank for them specifically. Unfortunately for him, the cashier did not seem to understand that the $2 bill is indeed legal US tender, since the bill itself is not often used. After rudely refusing to take the money, the cashier accepted the bills, only to mark them as though they were conterfeit.”
