Students for Bush Rally Against Michael Moore in Madison

This past Saturday, Michael Moore came to the University of Wisconsin at Madison to speak to a crowd of over 4000 people. While Moore came to promote Kerry as somehow being a respectable contender for the Presidency, he really only came to promote himself. Our student fees allowed Moore to come and preach his lies. So, the UW College Republicans organized a Bush/Cheney rally outside of the Memorial Union (the entrance to Moore’s speech).

Here is a picture of all of us (except for me because I was taking the picture) before we walked over to the Union. Click “Read More” below to see more pictures of the event!

Here’s some pictures of the signs that we made for the event:

(Here’s that kid’s friend…)

We weren’t alone either. The guy with the sign reading “Michael Moore is fat” was actually a Kerry supporter. The most striking thing I found that night was the vulgar language and rude hand gestures that almost all of the Democrats used. A few of the college students mooned us as they ran by… I can imagine teenagers or young adults resorting to such unintelligent behavior, but I find it very sad when adults my parents’ age walk by throwing out the “F-word” with both middle fingers raised. I hope I’m misjudging the majority of Democrats (and I know I am) but these are the kind of Democrats that Michael Moore attracts…the ones that have no better argument for why Kerry should be President than “Anybody but Bush.” Their logic ends where Fahrenheit 9/11 ends. (For discussion regarding that absurdity, watch the trailers and buy FahrenHYPE 9/11). The saddest part of the night came when I noticed the large number of grandparents that also sweared at us. Now I understand where all these vulgar kids come from…their parents were raised to act that way. There were a few Bush supporters that came to watch Moore. They either smiled, did nothing, of course did not swear or anything, and one older gentleman gave us all a huge thumbs up.

So then we went and chanted “Four more years. Four more years” for awhile on the outskirts of Moore’s stage. That got the crowd kind of mad and the people next to us started yelling “Two more weeks….” All in all, it got kind of loud with all the yelling from both sides and Moore was interrupted. (He was interrupted by other groups also, such as Nader supporters when Moore knocked Nader’s campaign). Later, I heard that Moore had referred to the Bush-supporters as “Pathetic a**holes,” the kind of language that would appease most of the crowd. I ended up leaving early when some disgruntled Democrat behind me tossed an empty beer cup full of urine on us, splashing on me in particular. The police were on hand and arrested one man for throwing a cup of water. I told the police what had happened to me but didn’t want to point out anyone in particular without knowing exactly who had thrown it. Thankfully it was very cold out so I didn’t smell too much of urine when I got back to the apartment to take a shower.

On a positive note, the Wisconsin Badgers beat #5 Penn State to remain undefeated at 7-0 (4-0 conference). We were even named the FedEx Orange Bowl National Team of the Week with our 20-17 victory.
