WordPress 1.5

I just upgraded to WordPress 1.5. One of the most outstanding upgrades, IMO, is the new theme manager. With the click of a button I can switch between themes. The default theme is now Kubrick…the theme that I’m using can be found at the bottom of the page. I still have some tweaking to do (such has making the javascript menu on the left work correctly), but all-in-all I really like the look of this theme. It does seem a little washed out to me so I might enlarge the fonts a little bit and bolden the colors…

Back to biomolecular chemistry studying. 😉

More Gmail Invites

Guess what? Google gave out some more Gmail invites! I now have 7 invites remaining. The FIRST SEVEN people that leave a comment here will get it. Please read that again. I only have 7 invites so once I’m out, I’m out. I’m not going to try and scavenge up some invites from friends like I did before.

Don’t worry. The first 7 people that respond will get an invite. However, I have a final coming up so I might not be able to send it right away.

3 remaining!!!

I also have some direct links to Gmail Invites…first come first served.

And, in breaking news, Google brings free POP3 access to Gmail. While rivals Yahoo and Microsoft charge up to $19.95 for POP3 access as part of their premium features, Gmail brings ad-free email client access

From Gmail’s help center,

POP, or Post Office Protocol, lets you download messages from Gmail’s servers onto your computer so you can access your mail with a program like Microsoft Outlook Express or Netscape Mail, even when you aren’t connected to the Internet.
* Over the next several weeks, we are introducing POP access to all of our users. To make sure the feature is fully stable, we’re giving users access to POP in phases. Once POP access is available to you, a ‘New Features!’ link appears at the top of your account, along with a ‘Forwarding and POP’ tab on your ‘Settings’ page.

If you are not one of the first 6, then please go here: Gmail Invite Spooler to get one. Thanks and enjoy!

New Blog!

I’ve successfully switched over from Blogger (which I still use for my photo blog through flickr) to WordPress. I initially had some trouble getting the permalinks to work right but I think it’s all good now. As soon as I get some more time I’ll update the template to something a bit more flashy. But now, back to bacteriology studying.

New website! www.illiteratewithdrawal.com

I was helping my brother find a site for his cartoons (he found www.spoonattack.com for which he is going to create an awesome flash intro) when I came across this randomly generated site: www.illiteratewithdrawal.com. So, this is going to be my new website address.

What does it mean? Here’s the etymology:

illiterate: Marked by inferiority to an expected standard of familiarity with language and literature; Ignorant of the fundamentals of a given art or branch of knowledge

withdrawal: The act or process of withdrawing as in a retreat or retirement

So make up your own mind. To me it means an intellectual withdrawal from the constraints of the unintelligent (whatever that means).
