And, in breaking news, Google brings free POP3 access to Gmail. While rivals Yahoo and Microsoft charge up to $19.95 for POP3 access as part of their premium features, Gmail brings ad-free email client access

From Gmail’s help center,

POP, or Post Office Protocol, lets you download messages from Gmail’s servers onto your computer so you can access your mail with a program like Microsoft Outlook Express or Netscape Mail, even when you aren’t connected to the Internet.
* Over the next several weeks, we are introducing POP access to all of our users. To make sure the feature is fully stable, we’re giving users access to POP in phases. Once POP access is available to you, a ‘New Features!’ link appears at the top of your account, along with a ‘Forwarding and POP’ tab on your ‘Settings’ page.

    aaah, if i really get gmail now ur gonna be my HERO! i really need it because im such a busy person and i get a lot of emails and my hotmail is ALWAYS overfilled even though i delete alot of stuff every week.

    I’ve sent invites to ether, angella, and Annette. Check your spam (bulk) mail folders if you don’t see the invites because Hotmail and Yahoo tend to hide Gmail invites in there.

    I still have 3 more invites left!

    Yes! At last i found one. Please send me one invite. I’m tired of using numbers on my email and having my emails deleted for not using it with the specified time or have the email risk deletion. More power to you!

    As stated earlier, I’m currently out of invites, meaning that I can’t give anymore away right now. This guy, http://www.sbhatta.com/archives/2004/11/11/gmail-goes-pop, might still have some, or you can go to the isnoop invite spooler http://isnoop.net/gmailomatic.php, or you can wait a few weeks (or months) until Google gives me some more invites. Thanks!
